Are you actually being relatable?

A subtle content marketing tip

Let's talk about something I see happening ALL the time in the online space (and honestly, something I had to check myself on too).

You're creating content trying to be "relatable" ... but have you stopped to ask yourself WHO you're actually being relatable to?

Here's what I mean: I noticed something weird happening in my business a while back. My audience was growing steadily (yay!) but mostly with other social media managers (wait, what? Granted, this did lead me to a pretty cool membership I hosted back in the day specifically for social media managers…).

After some reflection, I realized why – I was creating content that made the most sense to others in my industry. You know the type... "3 tips for optimizing your hashtag strategy" or "How to write the perfect caption."

Sure, this content was helpful... but to the wrong people!

I shifted to sharing what happens AFTER I work with clients. The results. The transformations. The possibilities.

Even just talking about the freedom having your social media content done for you was enough to get inquiries!

Instead of explaining HOW I do something, I started showing what becomes possible when working with me. And guess what? That's when things really started clicking with my ideal clients.

This applies whether you're:

  • A service provider

  • A course creator

  • Running a membership

  • Selling products

Your audience doesn't need to know every detail of your methodology – they need to see themselves in the outcome you create.

As we head into 2025, I challenge you to look at your content through this lens. Are you creating content that speaks to your peers, or content that shows your ideal clients what's possible for them?

Your potential clients aren't sitting around wondering about your process – they're wondering if you can help them achieve their goals. Show them that you can! And tell them exactly how to work with you!

This is exactly the type of issue I can help you troubleshoot inside Conversion Catalyst® Club. Inside the student community, you can post your content and I’ll give you real feedback. Tomorrow is Voxer Office Hours too so it’s a great time to join.

P.S. Don't overthink this! Start by sharing one client win this week. Focus on the transformation, not the "how."

P.S.S. Want to know the new rules of copy in 2025? My friend Sam is hosting a free training tomorrow. I’ve already made a note for it in my Notion… Yes I’m THAT excited! See you there! (aff. link)
